Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasized the Japan-U.S. alliance as her top foreign policy priority during her first phone conversation with former President Donald TRUMP since taking office. The discussion, described as "good and candid," took place while Trump was en route to Asia aboard Air Force One.
Takaichi reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, stating the alliance WOULD form the cornerstone of her security strategy. The leaders agreed to elevate cooperation, particularly regarding China policy and Indo-Pacific security frameworks. Takaichi acknowledged Trump's Middle East diplomacy and sought continued U.S. support on Japan's longstanding abduction issue.
